Fong_Brown_5The Miracle Mile may just be our favorite stretch of river on the North Platte River system and every year gives up some of the largest trout we have personally ever seen.  It is a special fishery that isn't easy to fish and is much more fickle at time than that of the Grey Reef.  However because we spend more time on the Miracle Mile than any other outfitter we feel we bring our clients the best chances for that fish of a lifetime.  Join us and come see why Curt Gowdy coined this special peice of Wyoming the "Miracle Mile".

There is no half day service for the Miracle Mile section.
Rates do not include gratuity for your guide or fishing license.

Wyoming fly fishing float trips on the Miracle Mile section of the North Platte River is very different than the Grey Reef section, a real adventure.  The water at the Miracle Mile is much faster and more rocky, and has a few different hatches.  Fly fishing the Miracle Mile section gives the angler some great scenery and great trout fishing at the same time.  Fly fishing trips to the Miracle Mile will consist of both wade fishing and drift boat fishing. The Miracle Mile consists of many islands and side channels that are perfect for pulling the drift boat over and getting out to wade fish.  Due to fluctuating flows, these islands can be secluded and you will often have them all to yourself providing solitude, scenery, and great Wyoming fly fishing.

The big attraction at the Miracle Mile is the Kortes Canyon or Miracle Mile Canyon depending on who you ask or what map you have.  This short canyon stretch is home to ver 3200 fish per mile, and includes yellowstone cutthroats, rainbows, and two strains of Brown Trout including the Ochrid Brown, originally from Ochrid Lake in former Yugoslavia.  This canyon also offers some of the best dry fly fishing in Wyoming due to several big hatches including golden stone flies, caddis, yellow sally's, tricos, and PMD's.

Eloise_Miracle_Mile_Fishing
Fly fishing the Miracle Mile section is slightly more technical than the Grey Reef section and lends itself to fly fisherman with a little more experience. The Miracle Mile fly fishing trip is a great compliment to those clients fishing with us for multiple days as you get to experience the vast contrast between Grey Reef and the Miracle Mile.  With that said we take adventurious newcomers to the Miracle Mile upon request and they tend to catch just as many trout as on the Grey Reef.

The Miracle Mile Tailwater

BoatShotMiracleMileWith great dry fly fishing and fantastic scenery the Miracle Mile really has it all. Smashed between two huge reservoirs, Pathfinder and Seminoe, this tailwater looks and fly fishes much like a great western free-stone river. Depending upon Pathfinder Reservoir levels, fly fishing float trips range between 5 and 12 miles. The “Miracle Mile” coined by famous broadcaster Curt Gowdy on the American Sportsman consists of fast rapid white water coming out of Kortes Dam and the beautiful Miracle Mile Canyon in the upper section which gradually gives way to slower water on the lower section, both sections teaming with big trout.

Fly_Fishing_Miracle_Mile_GRAThe Miracle Mile Canyon or Kortes Canyon depending on what map you have is absolutely a must see while on a fly fishing vacation in Wyoming.  The canyon is a short river stretch that can be floated and has some white water and some very nice runs all filled with trout.

The Miracle Mile doesn't have any boat ramps but the guides at Grey Reef Anglers spend more time than any other outfitter working the Miracle Mile and we know the best launch points for our drift boats.  In addition our guides have the big water experience to keep you safe and put you in position to catch a bunch of big trout.  Don't be fooled by other outfitters advertising trips to the Miracle Mile as many of their guides don't even know the launch points let alone where to fish.  Just make sure you do your homework before you book your trip no matter who you go with, this isn't a place for a rookie oarsman or guide as flows the past few years have at times eclipsed 10,000cfs and experienced Miracle Mile guides are a must.

Every year the Miracle Mile produces some truly amazing1 trout. Wyoming Game and Fish biologists electro shock the Miracle Mile each year, trout numbers are about 3200 fish per mile, and each year they shock brown trout that exceed 10 pounds. Every year a few of our clients tie into one of these monsters and land trophy trout of a lifetime. Pound for pound the trout at the “Mile” might be the best fighting trout you will ever encounter.
